Advisory Committee for Wales
The Advisory Committee for Wales advises Ofcom about the interests and opinions, in relation to communications matters, of persons living in Wales.
The Committee usually meets five times a year. The Committee’s minutes are provided to the Ofcom Board.
The remit of the Advisory Committee is to:
- seek to identify issues affecting the communications and postal sectors in Wales, both collectively as a Committee and individually for Members, with particular reference to the sectors where they have particular knowledge or expertise
- to provide advice to Ofcom about general and specific issues concerning the communications and postal sectors arising within Wales
- to provide advice and comment as required on matters brought to the Committee by Ofcom
- to offer comment as appropriate on consultations undertaken by Ofcom
- where requested by the Content Board, to provide specific advice to that Board on matters relating to television, radio and other content on services regulated by Ofcom
- when so requested by the Ofcom Board, to provide advice to the Communications Consumer Panel on matters affecting consumers in Wales in the communications sector.
- to produce an annual report reflecting issues within the communications and postal sectors in Wales

Robert Andrews (Chair)
Robert is a journalist and editor turned analyst and editorial strategist, specialising in the transformation of media, technology and marketing. He helped launch one of the UK's first local newspaper websites. He's written for publishers including The Guardian, Wired and The Drum and was also senior international editor of influential digital media industry news source paidContent.
Robert provides reports on industry trends for analysis firms and taught online journalism at University of Glamorgan. He is the author of the book 'Startup Blueprint: 7 Skills For Founders, Builders & Leaders'. Originally from Llanelli, Robert has lived in Cardiff for the last 20 years.
Robert originally joined the ACW on 1 November 2017 and was appointed Chair on 1 August 2023. His appointment runs until 31 July 2026.
Dr Aled Eirug (non-executive member)
Aled Eirug is a freelance strategic policy adviser and works for Swansea University and other clients. He was a member of the governing authority for the Welsh language broadcasting service, S4C (2012 -2015), chairman of the British Council’s advisory committee for Wales (2012-2015) and a member of the British Council’s Board of Trustees (2013-2015).
He is an experienced journalist and broadcaster with over 30 years experience at ITV and the BBC. He was BBC Wales’ Head of News and Current Affairs from 1992 to 2006 and a member of BBC Wales’ Board of Management from 2000 to 2006. He has extensive experience of radio, television and online production across news, current affairs and documentary making.
Aled joined the ACW on 1 December 2021. His appointment runs until 21 May 2025.
Angharad Evans (non-executive member)
Angharad Evans is a consultant film and television lawyer and has advised businesses of all sizes from start-ups to internationally recognised brands for the last 20 years. Before becoming a consultant she was Head of S4C’s Legal and Business Affairs Department and worked in the specialist Film and Media team at SJ Berwin, London.
She advises a variety of clients from small production companies to large multi-nationals on co-productions, distribution, multi-party financing arrangements, rights agreements, option agreements and clearances. She is recognised as a Leading Individual in Media Law in Wales in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.
Angharad Evans joined the ACW on 1 January 2022. Her appointment runs until 31 December 2026.
Geraint Strello (non-executive member)
Geraint has worked in the communications sector for over 40 years and has practical experience of telecoms engineering, customer services, emergency planning, strategic planning and deployment of fixed, mobile and Wi-Fi networks across Wales. He worked closely with Welsh Government officials to set up and Chair the first Wales Utilities Group reporting to the Local Resilience Forum.
He played a coordination role between the Welsh Government and Openreach during the deployment of fibre broadband in Wales under the Superfast Cymru programme and is keen to see the continued deployment of a reliable, affordable, high speed broadband service to all residents of Wales.
Karen Lewis (non-executive member)
Karen’s professional background spans the fields of education, media and social inclusion, especially digital inclusion. She led the delivery of Welsh Government’s digital inclusion programme for several years and was a founder member of the Media Literacy Network in Wales.
She has held senior positions at the University of South Wales (Creative Industries faculty), and was the founder Senior Producer of the BBC’s multi award-winning community based Digital Storytelling initiative.
She is currently a Non Executive Director on the the Board of Llais Cymru (The Citizen Voice Body for Health and Social Care in Wales) and will commence her appointment to the National Heritage Lottery Fund Committee (Wales) in April 2024.
Previous non-executive roles include Chair of Digital Leaders for Wales and Member for Wales on the UK wide Communications Consumer Panel.
