British Film Institute (bfi)
The bfi promotes understanding and appreciation of Britain's film and television heritage and culture. For example bfi education has activities, resources and services that are directly relevant to teaching and learning about moving image media. -
Department for Education & Skills (DfES)
The DfES ‘standards' site has information on ‘the significance of the media in society' unit for Citizenship key stage 3 -
English and Media Centre
Information on a range of teacher & pupil resources on the web. -
Media Ed
A UK media education website run by Media Education Wales. -
Newsfilm
The newsfilm online website makes available television and cinema news clips from the 1910s to the present day and is managed by the British Universities Film and Video Council. -
BBC NewsWatch
The BBC’s NewsWatch site looks at issues raised by viewers and listeners about TV news and current affairs shows, including discussion on how editorial decisions are made. -
Film Education
Film Education is a link between education and the UK film industry. It facilitates the study and use of film and cinema across the curriculum, creating, developing and sustaining a literate audience through the understanding and enjoyment of film. -
Media Smart
This is an industry funded UK initiative aimed at primary school children. Its objective is to provide children with the tools to help them understand and interpret advertising, so that they are able to make informed choices. -
Chew On This
The ‘Chew on this’ website is produced by the Food Commission (www.foodcomm.org.uk). Its aim is to provide useful information to 11-14 year olds about food - including on how food is marketed to children and young people. -
The MediaRelate Project
The MediaRelate project: understanding media images of love, sex and relationships. The project aims to produce and evaluate teaching materials about representations of love, sex and relationships in the media. The primary target age group will be young people aged between twelve and fifteen. -
Filmstreet
Filmstreet is free interactive website for kids aged six through to nine. It is designed to help kids learn about filmmaking, with practical guidance for adults too. Filmstreet has been commissioned by Culture Online (see www.cultureonline.gov.uk).

The European charter for media literacy
The Charter for Media Literacy exists to support the establishment of media literacy across Europe. -
The Alliance for a Media Literate Europe (ALLMEDIA)
This project brings together schools, universities, companies, individuals and other formal and non-formal educational organizations, to bring media literacy education to pupils, parents, teachers and others who care about youth across Europe. -
The Alliance for a Media Literate America
This is a USA based organisation promoting media literacy education focused on critical inquiry, learning, and skill-building. -
Centre for media literacy
USA based not-for-profit organization providing practical information, teacher training and an on-line catalogue of resources for teaching media literacy. -
