A further extension of the Community Audio Distribution Systems trial period
Ofcom has been licensing the provision of Community Audio Distribution Systems (CADS) on a trial basis since 4 November 2004. The current trial period is due to expire on 30 September 2006.
Ofcom has decided to extend the trial period for a further six months until 31 March 2007. The trial will continue to run in the following postcode areas: BB, BD, BL, BT, LS and OL.
Ofcom intends to consult on a longer term solution to the provision of CADS shortly. However, it does not believe that a permanent replacement for CADS could be put in place before the end of the current trial and is therefore extending the period of this trial in order to allow for a smooth transition from a temporary to a permanent scheme, if, after the consultation, it is considered to be the most appropriate course of action.
During the period of the trial, Ofcom expects all CADS licensees to comply with the terms set out in Ofcom’s original consultation document and the terms of the CADS licence issued. The original consultation (now closed) and other information is available at: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/cads/
