Community Radio Fund Statement
The Community Radio Fund: Policy Statement
2.1 Ofcom received responses to the Community Radio Fund consultation from industry bodies, radio stations and individuals. Organisational respondents included: the CMA (Community Radio Association); the CRCA (Commercial Radio Companies Association); Emap Performance; the Christian Broadcasting Council; and Public Voice. Several of the experimental ‘Access Radio’ pilot stations also responded, along with a number of prospective community broadcasters.
2.2 Although there were some specific negative responses to the questions raised by the consultation, the majority of contributors felt that the proposed approach, as put forward by Ofcom, was generally appropriate. There were a number of useful suggestions as to how the scheme might be further enhanced or improved, a s well as some more general comments about the potential impacts of the new fund.
2.3 The following pages summarise some of the responses to specific questions posed in the Community Radio Fund Consultation Document. The summaries of responses given to specific questions is not a complete analysis of all those submitted, rather it is intended to give a general overview of the types of responses received. Annex 2 gives a numerical breakdown of positive and negative responses received in answer to each of the individual questions posed.
