Next steps for SURs
Ofcom published the Spectrum Usage Rights (SURs) consultation document on 12 April and received a range of responses.
Overall, the responses broadly - but not unanimously - supported the concept of SURs while pointing out that a number of issues require further study, and making a number of valuable comments and suggestions.
Many of these responses requested that further work be undertaken in a collaborative manner before Ofcom implements SURs.
Ofcom has therefore decided that it will conduct a further study of the issues raised by the responses. Ofcom hopes to present the results of the research for discussion at a workshop to be held in the autumn. All those who responded to the consultation – along with other interested parties - will be invited to attend. Ofcom does not expect to publish any statement or further consultation on the development of SURs pending further discussion with stakeholders.
