Advice about TV schedules and programmes
Television programmes are usually provided by broadcasters in one of three ways:
- Acquired from overseas broadcasters (e.g. Home and Away, CSI) or a film studio for feature films;
- Made in house by the broadcaster’s production arm (e.g. Coronation Street, Panorama);
- Produced by independent producers for broadcasters (e.g. Big Brother – made by Endemol, Have I Got News for You – made by Hat Trick).
You can find out who has made a programme by watching the end credits of the programme.
No matter who has made the programme, it is always the broadcaster who has responsibility for ensuring that the programmes they transmit comply with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.
