Advice about TV schedules and programmes
Ofcom is not responsible for deciding which programmes are broadcast and when. This is the job of the broadcasters.
However, Ofcom does enforce some basic rules on scheduling and content information.
These rules are designed to ensure that people under 18 are protected. In particular, children (under the age of 15) must be protected by appropriate scheduling from material that is unsuitable for them.
Television broadcasters must also observe the “watershed”. The “watershed” is at 9.00pm. Material unsuitable for children should not, in general, be shown before 9.00pm.
