Broadcasting fine
Ofcom has today issued a £52,500 fine after two adult entertainment services breached the Broadcasting Code.
RHF Productions and Portland Enterprises were fined in respect of some of their Red Hot Services and its Television X2 service.
RHF Productions used some of its adult TV channel to make on-screen text references to two websites, which it owned with Portland Enterprises. The websites contained material equivalent to BBFC rated R18.
These references were broadcast during the day and were for websites containing extremely sexually explicit material which could be viewed without registration or the need for age verification.
Sexually explicit material
Broadcasters must ensure that they do not promote websites giving access to free-to-view sexually explicit material without any protections. This is particularly important when such references may be seen by children.
In September 2008, Television X2 broadcast material equivalent to BBFC rated R18. Although the broadcast was under encryption, the transmission of material equivalent to R18 is prohibited on all Ofcom licences.
RHF has received a financial penalty of £25,000 and Portland Enterprises has received a financial penalty of £27,500.
