ITV1 (Granada) in breach of political advertising rules
Ofcom has today published its decision on the broadcast, by ITV1 (Granada), of an advertisement concerning a local poll.
Ofcom has found that the advertisement, about the proposed transport plan for Greater Manchester including the introduction of congestion charging, was in breach of Section 4 of the BCAP Television Advertising Code which prohibits political advertising.
Ofcom concluded that the material was in breach of:
- Section 4(b) which prohibits advertisements that may be directed toward a political end;
- Section 4(d) which prohibits advertisements that show partiality as respects matters of political or industrial controversy or relating to current public policy.
The investigation and publication about this decision been dealt with on an urgent basis because of the circumstances of the case and the public interest.
