Ofcom awards new FM commercial radio licence for Norwich
Ofcom today announces the award of the new FM local commercial radio licence for Norwich and surrounding area.
By the closing date of 9 March 2005, Ofcom received five applications for the Norwich licence. After giving careful consideration to each of the applications submitted, the Ofcom Radio Licensing Committee has decided to award the licence to:
Crown FM Ltd, 53 Wymer Street, Norwich, NR2 4BJ
Contact: Kevin Stewart Tel: 07799 418576
Email : kevin.stewart@tindleradio.com
Crown FM is owned by Provincial Radio Ltd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tindle Radio Holdings Ltd. – 47%), Town and Country Broadcasting Ltd. (43%), with the balance of shares held by four individuals. Crown FM will provide a local music, news and information service for listeners aged 25+ in the Norwich area.
The licence is for a service to cover the city of Norwich and surrounding area which has an adult population (aged 15+) of around 240,000. However, the exact coverage will be determined by the location of the transmission site and other technical characteristics. The proposed frequency (99.9 MHz) is subject to international agreement on radio spectrum usage.
Ofcom expects Crown FM to begin broadcasting at the earliest opportunity and no later than two years from this award date.
Ofcom will publish a statement setting out the key determining factors for the award of this licence shortly.
The licence will be issued for a twelve year period.
Ends.
