Ofcom Announces The Appointment of Two New Members To Its Advisory Committee For England
Ofcom today announced the appointment of two new members to its Advisory Committee for England. They are Azam Mamujee from Leicester and Anne Scorer from Bristol.
As set out in Section 20 of the Communications Act 2003, the Committee was established to provide advice to Ofcom about the interests and opinions of people living in the English regions on all communications matters. There are similar committees in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Committee, which meets quarterly, reports directly to the Ofcom Board and publishes its own annual report. The Ofcom Content Board Member for England, Jonathan Edwards, and Consumer Panel Member for England, Roger Darlington, also attend meetings of the Committee by invitation.
The new members have been appointed for three years and began their terms on 1 September.
Azam Mamujee is Chief Executive Officer of Mcubed, a company which provides business consulting and accountancy services and is also a member of the governing body of the University of Leicester. In the past he has been a Director for Deloittes and is a former East Midlands e-Business champion. He has a keen interest in technology and telecoms.
Anne Scorer is a former independent producer who ran her own documentary production company before creating and managing the broadbandshow, a Department of Trade and Industry funded initiative which demonstrated the impact broadband can have on small businesses. This model has now been licensed in Yorkshire and Anne is a member of the executive steering group for this second version. She has a particular interest in digital media content production.
Since the 1 July the committee has been chaired by one of its original members, Suzy Brain England, from Bradford, West Yorkshire who has a portfolio of directorships after a career of managing change in the private, public and voluntary sector. She is Chair of a West Yorkshire organisation helping teenagers into education, training and work. Suzy is also a Chartered Director and former Midlands Business Woman of the Year. She mentors individuals to perform better at work.
There are eight other members of the Committee whose details can be found on the Ofcom website at www.ofcom.org.uk/about/csg/adv_cmmt_nations/ace/biogs/
