Ofcom awards new FM commercial radio licence for Exeter

Ofcom today announces the award of the new FM local commercial radio licence for Exeter.

By the closing date of 10 May 2006, Ofcom received four applications for the Exeter licence. After giving careful consideration to each of the applications submitted, the Ofcom Radio Licensing Committee has decided to award the licence to:

Exeter FM, Sunrise House, Merrick Road, Southall, UB2 4AU
Contact: Neil Romain Tel: 020 8843 5303 Email: nromain@londonmedia.co.uk

The owners of Exeter FM are London Media Company Limited and Riverside Radio Limited. It will provide a locally-focused radio station for Exeter and the surrounding area that is designed to appeal to a broad range of adult listeners, particularly those aged 35-54, with a full service of comprehensive news and local information, engaging speech features and conversation and a wide variety of music from the 60s to the present day.

The licence is for a service to cover Exeter which has an adult population (aged 15+) of around 140,000. However, the exact coverage will be determined by the location of the transmission site and other technical characteristics.

Ofcom expects Exeter FM to begin broadcasting at the earliest opportunity and no later than two years from this award date.

Ofcom will publish a statement setting out the key determining factors for the award of this licence shortly.

The licence will be issued for a twelve year period.

Ends.
