Ofcom awards new FM commercial radio licence for Perth

Ofcom today announces the award of the new FM local commercial radio licence for Perth.

By the closing date of 10 August 2006, Ofcom received one application for the Perth licence. After giving careful consideration to the application having regard to the statutory criteria set out in the Broadcasting Act 1990 (as amended), the Ofcom Radio Licensing Committee has decided to award the licence to:

Perth FM Limited, The Gateway, North Nethven Street, Perth PH1 5PP.
Contact: Mark Page Tel: 01748 830050 Email: info@perthfm.co.uk

Perth FM Limited is wholly-owned by Mark Page. It will provide "A high quality service of local news, topical information and entertainment designed specifically for the Perth area, combined with a broad mix of popular music."

The licence is for a service to cover Perth which has an adult population (aged 15+) of around 60,000. However, the exact coverage will be determined by the location of the transmission site and other technical characteristics. The proposed frequency, 106.6 MHz, is subject to international agreement on radio spectrum usage.

Ofcom expects Perth FM Limited to begin broadcasting at the earliest opportunity and no later than two years from this award date.

Ofcom will publish a statement setting out the key determining factors for the award of this licence shortly.

The licence will be issued for a twelve year period.

Ends.
