Ofcom today announces the award of the new FM local commercial radio licence for Herefordshire and Monmouthshire.

By the closing date of 14 November 2006, Ofcom received two applications for the Herefordshire and Monmouthshire licence. After giving careful consideration to each of the applications submitted, the Ofcom Radio Licensing Committee has decided to award the licence to:

Herefordshire & Monmouthshire Classic Hits Ltd, 5 Belgravia Gardens, Hereford, HR1 1RB.
Contact: Andrew Jancey Tel: 01432 351932
Email: andrew@laserbroadcasting.com

The owners of Herefordshire & Monmouthshire Classic Hits are Laser Broadcasting Ltd, Hereford Local Radio Ltd and Monmouth Local Radio Ltd. It will provide “a distinctive speech and music led radio station for Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, with local news and information.”

The licence is for a service to cover Herefordshire and Monmouthshire which has an adult population (aged 15+) of around 200,000. However, the exact coverage will be determined by the location of the transmission site and other technical characteristics.

Ofcom expects Herefordshire & Monmouthshire Classic Hits to begin broadcasting at the earliest opportunity and no later than two years from this award date.

Ofcom will publish a statement setting out the key determining factors for the award of this licence shortly.

The licence will be issued for a twelve year period.

Ends.
