Ofcom appoints new members to Advisory Committee for Scotland
Ofcom today announced the appointment of two new members to its Advisory Committee for Scotland.
As set out in Section 21 of the Communications Act 2003, the Advisory Committee was established to provide advice to Ofcom (and other committees established by Ofcom) about the interests and opinions of people living in Scotland on all communications matters.
The two new appointments will mean that the Advisory Committee for Scotland has nine members in total:
Laura Alexander (three year term) lives in Clackmannanshire and is a Chartered Electronic Engineer currently working as an Open University lecturer in the Technology Faculty. She has previously worked for the MoD, Alenia Marconi, Aspects Software and Tality. She has previously served on her local community council.
Andrew Anderson (four year term) lives in Ross and Cromarty, and has been an SNP Councillor on Highland Council for 12 years. He will stand down from Highland Council in May 2007 after chairing the Education, Culture and Sport Committee and serving on the Gaelic Committee and the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party group on Gaelic. He previously worked for BT and was formerly director of Ross FM, a community radio station.
Further to these appointments, Philip Schlesinger has been reappointed to the Committee for a further four year term. Philip, who lives in Glasgow, is currently Professor of Cultural Policy at Glasgow University.
Vicki Nash, Director, Ofcom Scotland said: “The Advisory Committee plays an important role in advising Ofcom on communications matters that affect Scotland.
“Communications in Scotland is undergoing huge change with digital switchover beginning in 2008. Laura, Andrew and Philip’s skills complement those of the existing members of the Advisory Committee, which will continue to provide Ofcom with advice on key issues for Scottish consumers and citizens”.
