Ofcom publishes code of practice on transitional arrangements for digital switchover
Ofcom today published its final statement and Code of Practice on the management of transitional issues during the preparation for digital switchover.
Digital switchover will take place in the UK between 2008 and 2012, in accordance with the regional timetable set out by Government in September 2005. In order to achieve this timescale, an extensive programme of upgrading needs to begin on the UK’s transmission infrastructure.
Ofcom’s revised Code has been introduced to ensure that broadcasters and transmission companies make appropriate arrangements to keep any potential disruption to viewers and listeners to a minimum during the upgrade programme.
The Code of Practice on Changes to Existing Transmission and Reception Arrangements is effective from 16 May 2007 and finalises proposals set out in the discussion paper on the Code published in January 2007. Broadcasters are required to comply with the updated Code under the terms of their broadcast licences.
The final statement on Digital Switchover – Management of Transition Coverage Issues and the new Code of Practice on Changes to Existing Transmission and Reception Arrangements are available from the Related Items
