Ofcom appoints new members to its Spectrum Advisory Board
Ofcom today announced the appointment of four new members to its Spectrum Advisory Board. They are: Robert Pepper, Simon Saunders, Peter Swann and Tommaso Valletti. They replace four members of the board who completed their terms at the end of March - Martin Cave, Gary Tonge, Mike Short and Stephen Lowe.
The new members have been appointed for four years and began their terms on 21 May 2007.
Dr Robert Pepper is Senior Managing Director of Global Advanced Technology Policy at Cisco Systems Inc in Washington DC. Previously he worked at the US regulator, the Federal Communications Commission, and served as Director of the Annenberg Washington Program in Communications Policy. He has also held many academic appointments. He serves on the Board of Directors of the US Telecommunications Training Institute and is a member of the US Department of Commerce’s Spectrum Management Advisory Committee.
Professor Simon Saunders is an independent specialist in wireless communications, with a technical and commercial background in both industry and academia. The former Chief Technology Officer of the Red-M consultancy, Simon has invented several novel wireless technologies. He currently serves on the technical advisory boards of Picochip and Ubiquisys and the industrial advisory board at University College London. He is a Visiting Professor to the University of Surrey.
Professor Peter Swann OBE is Professor of Industrial Economics at Nottingham University Business School. Previously he worked at Manchester Business School and London Business School. He has carried out many studies for government departments and was a Specialist Adviser to the House of Lords Committee on Science and Technology and a member of the Academic Panel of the Department for Trade and Industry’s Innovation Review.
Professor Tommaso Valletti is Professor of Economics at Imperial College London and the University of Rome. He is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research and a Research Affiliate of the Global Communications Consortium ( London Business School). He has advised numerous bodies, including the European Commission, the OECD and the World Bank. He edits numerous economic journals.
