Ofcom Begins Assessment Of BT Undertakings
Following its acceptance of binding Undertakings from BT Group plc in 2005, in lieu of making a reference under the Enterprise Act 2002, Ofcom announced today that it will now begin its next formal review of their implementation.
Since 2005, Ofcom has published a quarterly report setting out BT’s progress in implementing the Undertakings, and an annual report looking at the overall impact of the Undertakings on fixed telecommunications markets and the benefits for consumers. This process is overseen at Ofcom Board level.
Ofcom will therefore carry out an assessment of BT's overall progress in implementing the Undertakings and the delivery of those Undertakings due by July 2007. Ofcom is now starting that assessment, and expects to publish its conclusions in the autumn. This follows the last such review completed in September 2006.
Ends.
