Ofcom appoints Jill Ainscough to Chief Operating Officer role

Ofcom has appointed Jill Ainscough as its Chief Operating Officer, a role left vacant following Ed Richards’ appointment as Chief Executive in 2006.

Several of Ofcom’s Technology and Spectrum Operations functions as well as its Organisation, Planning and Development groups, including Human Resources and Finance, report to the COO.

Jill’s most recent post was as Managing Director of broadband company Easynet Group plc from 2004-6. She oversaw the transformation of the business from an SME to a corporate service provider and the integration programme following the acquisition by BSkyB Group plc. Prior to this she was Marketing Director at the company.

Her previous roles include extensive experience in the communications sector, having been Head of Market Development at ntl Inc. as well as business planner for the Cambridge Cable Group and senior financial analyst for the Granada Group. She is also a member of the Board of Sport England.

Commenting on the appointment, Ed Richards said “Ofcom is very fortunate to have found someone of Jill’s calibre and experience for this crucial role. I know she will make an excellent contribution to our important consumer and citizen-facing activities and well as to the effectiveness of the working practices of a lean regulator.”

Jill Ainscough said “Ofcom has an excellent reputation, so I am delighted to be joining its team as it continues to improve its functions and responsiveness to its many stakeholders.”

She takes up the post on 7 August.

Ends.
