Updated May 2009
*The usual 'window' for applying for a community radio licence is 12 weeks. In region 8 - Greater London and other areas within the M25 - the FM frequency availability has changed from that which was set out in our document ‘Community Radio Licensing: Second Round’ published in July 2006. As such, we consider it appropriate to extend the application 'window' for this particular region from the usual 12 weeks to 18 weeks, in order to give prospective applicants time to take full account of the situation regarding FM frequency availability and to prepare their applications accordingly. The invitation to apply can be found via the link below.
Region 8 (Greater London and other areas within the M25) is the final region in our second round of community radio licensing.
At some point towards the end of 2009, we will consider whether to conduct a third round of community radio licensing, and if so, how and when to do this. As soon as we are able to announce a decision on this issue, we will do so. Potential applicants should note, however, that there is a lack of suitable FM frequencies in many parts of the UK, notably in and around major conurbations.
Presentations for potential applicants
Potential community radio licence applicants for locations in Greater London and other areas within the M25 are invited to attend a presentation on the community radio licensing process on either Friday 19 June or Friday 26 June 2009, from 10.30am to 3.00pm. The presentations will be held at Ofcom's office in London.
If you are interested in attending please email: community.radio@ofcom.org.uk or phone 0207 981 3687.
