Applications for Radio Multiplex Licence: Northeast Wales and West Cheshire

Now Digital (North Wales, Wirral & Cheshire) Ltd informed Ofcom, on 7 August 2007, that it wished to remove from its application the ‘religious’ Format from its proposed line-up of services. UCB UK, the planned provider for this service, had advised Now Digital that it no longer required capacity on the North East Wales and West Cheshire local multiplex licence.

Now Digital has been unable to source an alternative provider for its proposed religious service prior to the licence award decision. As a result, Now Digital is proposing to replace the religious service with an unspecified local digital sound programme service, in addition to the other services proposed in its original application. Now Digital further proposes that this unspecified service will commence broadcasting within one year of the launch of the multiplex service, and will be broadcast 24 hours a day and at a bit-rate no lower than that at which the religious service was originally proposed to be broadcast (64kb). No other amendments to the application have been proposed.

In light of the fact that Now Digital has been unable to source an alternative service provider for its proposed religious Format, Ofcom has accepted Now Digital’s amendment to its application. Ofcom seeks views on this amendment by Monday 3 September 2007. Any written representations on the applications can either be emailed to commercialradio@ofcom.org.uk or posted to Neil Stock, Head of Radio, Ofcom, Riverside House, 2a Southwark Bridge Road, London SE1 9HA. Please mark the correspondence 'North East Wales and West Cheshire licence'.
