Review of Internet Repeater Linking
The facility to link amateur radio via the Internet, Internet repeater linking, was agreed on an experimental basis, subject to a future review. The time for that review has now arrived. The Agency is interested in inputs, preferably via the national society, the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), but also from Internet repeater keepers and amateur users.
The main issues to be covered are:
- Has the experiment been a success, a critical analysis of good and not so good points?
- Are the bands and frequencies chosen appropriate, should changes be made?
- Internet links must be constantly attended whilst active, what are the difficulties associated with that requirement? One link at Sheffield was granted an NoV allowing unattended operation; how has use of that link differed in practice?
- What abuse has been noted and what action was taken, e.g. by the link attendant?
- What usage and demand has been noted?
- What pressure has there been for the provision of new facilities in areas not currently served?
- What pressure is there for links with other countries or is the usage predominantly inter-UK?
The closing date for submissions is 26 April 2002.
