Ofcom announces re-opening of simplex frequencies in the 450-470MHz (UHF2) band
Simplex frequency channels for on-site speech & data and for wide area paging are now re-opened for use in the 450-470MHz (UHF2) band.
The Office of Communications (Ofcom) has recently announced its intention not
to proceed with the programme to frequency align to CEPT recommendation TR/25-08
in the UHF2 band, scheduled to begin in 2006.
Ofcom has re-considered the plans for re-alignment of the band and decided that
the project, inherited from the former Radiocommunications Agency was not in
line with its policy for encouraging market management of the spectrum.
However, Ofcom is considering how to create an opportunity for the market to
access the UHF2 band and will engage with stakeholders to seek their views on
any new proposals.
