Section 1
Introduction
The Office of Communications (Ofcom) is the body empowered to grant licences under the Wireless Telegraphy Act. Ofcom's statutory duties for carrying our spectrum functions are set out in the Communications Act 2003 and include regard for availability and demand for spectrum, efficient and economic use, and a number of other duties.
The purpose of this document is to summarise the liaison arrangements regarding licensing, assignment and spectrum management issues relating to the regulation of fixed wireless services in the UK.
In this document fixed wireless services include:
- terrestrial fixed microwave and millimetric links used for access and infrastructure operating above 1 GHz; and
- terrestrial scanning telemetry links operating in the range 450 to 470 MHz.
