The fees algorithm was launched on the 13 June 2005. The algorithm has been developed to make the fees charged for fixed links fairer and more transparent by placing all bands onto a single fee structure. Progress on the implementation of the algorithm is being monitored by Ofcom. Updates on developments and any proposed changes will be made at the meeting.

Ofcom are carrying out an investigation into reducing wanted to unwanted (W/U) ratios. This will improve the efficiency of the frequency assignment criteria. The proposal to reduce W/U ratios is already being tested in one of the fixed link bands. If all goes well, the proposal will be tested in other fixed link bands. If successful, this investigation is expected to lead to more links being available in the always high in demand fixed link spectrum.

Ofcom representatives regularly attend international meetings and are involved in related activities that would affect the regulations of the fixed link spectrum. The reports from these activities provide attendees with advance notice of future policy developments which helps them to plan future strategies in order to remain competitive.

These meetings create the perfect opportunity for members to raise any issues and concerns they may have. They can either do this in the larger meetings or, if they wish to discuss concerns specific to their organisation, they can request to arrange a smaller meeting where they can speak to selected Ofcom members in confidence.
