Fylingdales co-ordination tool workshops
Auction of spectrum: 412-414 MHz paired with 422-424 MHz
On 6 April 2006 Ofcom published an information memorandum concerning the proposed auction of licences in the 412-414 MHz and 422-424 MHz spectrum bands. The memorandum alerts interested parties to the need for licensees to co-ordinate their use of the spectrum bands with the radar at RAF Fylingdales. The memorandum also states that Ofcom will give potential bidders access to a specially developed software co-ordination tool in advance of the auction so that potential bidders can check the effect of proposed new stations upon aggregate interference into the Fylingdales radar.
Ofcom ran a series of workshops in June 2006 to give potential bidders:
- an overview of the RAF Fylingdales co-ordination requirement;
- an opportunity to assess possible networks against the requirement; and
- an indication of the data that licensees will need to provide to Ofcom prior to station deployment, and how that data will be used by Ofcom.
At the workshops, Ofcom will offer potential bidders a short training session on the use of the software co-ordination tool. Potential bidders will then be given the opportunity to use the co-ordination tool for a limited amount of time, without any input by Ofcom, in order to test possible networks. Ofcom will not provide any specific network planning advice to potential bidders. Further details about the workshops will be provided when invitations are issued.
The presentation given by Ofcom at the workshops is available below.
