Awards programme timetable

This page provides a summary of the next steps and timing for each band in the award programme. It is an update of the information provided in the SFRI:IP Interim Statement (Published 28|07|05). It is Ofcom's best estimate as at April 2009 and may be updated from time to time. Timings are subject to analysis of consultation responses and, where relevant, developments in international regulatory fora.

2290-2302 MHz Consultation published in July 2008 Proposed award of the whole of 2200-2300 MHz to band manager with special obligation to the PMSE sector (late 2010)
2302 – 2310 MHz Subject of discussion with Government who may bring forward proposals for release in the future
2500-2690 MHz (with 2010-2025 MHz) Statement, information memorandum and draft regulations published in April 2008. Notice of proposed change to the regulations published in October and update on change published in December 2008.
On-going litigation – assuming a High Court judgement in Ofcom’s favour, we would expect to start the award the award process by setting an application date in summer 2009; - see future updates on the award in light of the on-going litigation. The latest update as at April 2009 was published at the end of March 2009.
3.6 – 4.2 GHz In May 2008 the European Commission adopted a Decision regarding the bands 3.4 - 3.8GHz aiming at a harmonisation of the conditions for availability and efficient use of terrestrial electronic communications services, without prejudice to existing uses. Ofcom is reviewing its obligation under this decision.
