The roles of the Technology R&D Group are to:

• Keep Ofcom and others informed on new technology developments and the impact that they might have on the sectors that we regulate.
• Act as a source of technical expertise for those within Ofcom working on a range of policy-related projects.
• Perform a wide variety of research with the objective of enhancing the efficiency of use of the radio spectrum and stimulating innovation in the communications sector

We fulfil these roles predominantly through research and consultancy contracts that we place with a wide range of external bodies including consultants, industry and academia.
