In December 2007 the Technology R&D group of Ofcom held a workshop looking at future technology trends in the communications sector.

This activity forms part of Ofcom’s annual technology research cycle and provides a valuable input into formulating the research agenda for the subsequent year. This activity sits alongside others where we solicit feedback, such as the annual Ofcom Technology Research Symposium, the annual Technology Research Report, as well as more detailed workshops on our projects into specific technologies, and gathering feedback from stakeholder groups for example the Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board. The Technology Trends workshop provides an opportunity to gather expert industrial, academic and other stakeholder viewpoints on the likely future communications landscape and developments. It makes a number of recommendations as to possible future research activities which we will consider as we formulate our research agenda for 08/09.
