Understanding and furthering emerging technologies
The work in this area has investigated a wide range of new technologies including software defined radio, smart antennas, cognitive radio and wireless mesh networking. The potential impact of these technologies on the spectral efficiency of future systems is significant. To varying degrees each of these technologies can be said to exist now in some form, but for each there are technology hurdles at present which mean these systems will be widely deployed gradually over the longer term.
The following projects have been completed:
- Software Defined Radio
- SMART Antennas
- Cognitive Radio
- Interference Cancellation
- Ultra Wideband
- MESH Networks
- Decentralised Spectrum Access (DSA)
- Wireless Sensor Networks
- Assessment of the theoretical limits of copper in the last mile
