Facilitating Liberalisation – GRMT
Outline of the programme
This is an extension of a previous SES-funded project. To date a prototype tool has been developed that will allow the impact of innovative, unconventional, uses of the spectrum to be assessed. This can be used to assess, for example, the effect of allowing a mobile network to share spectrum with fixed wireless services. It produces reports that will indicate the probability of particular interference thresholds being exceeded considering both time and location variability.
Timescales
The ongoing project, which will run until March 2007, will improve the functionality in a number of ways. These include interfacing with the Ofcom assignment database allowing it to read actual current assignments, enabling predictions to be made faster, and accommodating smart antennas and cognitive radio.
