| Welcome to SACOT
The Scottish Advisory Committee on Telecommunications
(SACOT) was established by the Telecommunications Act 1984 to advise the Director General
of the Office of Telecommunications (OFTEL). Companies operating telecommunications
systems are also required by their licences to consider its representations.
 |
The Chairman and members of the committee are private
citizens appointed by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, and are independent
of OFTEL. Members are selected to represent a range of consumer interests in Scotland.
The Chairman of SACOT is Jeremy Mitchell. |
The primary function of SACOT is to promote the interests of
users of telecommunications services and equipment. We do this through our advice to OFTEL
about regulatory policy and its effects on consumers; and through direct representations
to telecommunications companies operating in Scotland.
