Showing Complaints & Interventions Report for KHULJA SIM SIM
Channel: Star Plus
Date & time: Sunday 12 August and Sunday 19 August: 9.30pm
Complaint from: 1 viewer (upheld)
Background
Star Plus is a service launched earlier this year consisting largely of material from the parent company based in India. This game show, produced in India, involved studio contestants guessing the price of everyday household and grocery items, and competing for brand name major prizes.
Issue
A viewer complained that the show gave undue prominence to the branded products featured in it.
Assessment
Brand name products were readily identifiable throughout the programme both as items in the game show and as prizes. In response to the ITC’s enquiry, Star Plus removed the programme from their schedules and internally reviewed their assessment of programme material.
Conclusion
The ITC concluded that the show contravened Section 8.4 of the Programme Code. However, given Star Plus’ prompt action, no further action was considered appropriate.
