Biographical
note
Elaine Axby
joined Oftel in April 1999 from telecoms consultancy company Schema.
Prior to that, she worked for BT and BT Cellnet (now 02) in a variety
of marketing and business development roles. She has overall policy
responsibility for mobile and narrowband Internet access, and is
also programme manager for the range of market reviews Oftel is
carrying out to implement the new EU Directives.
Career
1993 – 99: senior
consultant, Schema, responsible for business planning and market
projects for clients in various telecoms businesses, including new
fixed and mobile operators.
1990 – 93: product
marketing manager, BT Cellnet, responsible for initial marketing
planning of BT Cellnet’s digital GSM network.
1987 – 90: product
manager, BT Mobile, responsible for a number of services including
BT’s early System 4 mobile radio system. Also worked for BT exploring
investment opportunities in mobile in Southern Europe.
1979 – 87: range
of jobs for Esso Petroleum, including customer services for the
South East England sales team and marketing planning advisor for
industrial lubricants.
Education
BA in Modern
Languages (French and German), post graduate business qualification
at the Ecole Superieure de Commerce, Dijon, France, Certified Diploma
in Accountancy and Finance.
