note

Peter Waller
took up his appointment as Director of Operations on 21 January
2001. He is on loan to Oftel from the DTI, which he joined in 1976
on graduating from Oxford University.

CAREER
2000 -2001 Deputy
Chief Executive of the newly formed Small Business Service with
a wide ranging brief to provide business support services for small
firms and to intervene across Government to promote their interests.
1997-2000 Director Business Links DTI. Business Links are the government-backed
network of advisory services for small firms. Previously worked
on small firms issues at DTI since 1995.
1991-1995 Head
of Post Office privatisation team DTI. In charge of team supporting
the dogged (but ultimately failed) attempts by Michael Heseltine
to privatise the Royal Mail.
1990-1991 Head of Market Intelligence Unit DTI.
1987-1990 Privatisations
- Rolls-Royce, British Steel, Water industry (focusing on Stock
exchange flotations)
1976-1987 various
posts at DTI, including private secretary to Consumer Affairs Minister.
