Directory enquiry (DQ) services enable you to find the telephone number of people or organisations you are trying to contact. Usually the name of a person or company and its general location will be enough to enable the DQ staff to find a telephone number, if it is available. In December 2002 the market for directory enquiries was opened up to a wide range of companies. Many offer new products and services in addition to the basic DQ service. The new services operate on new 6-digit numbers, all starting with 118. There is also a consumer guide which explains what these changes will mean for you - please click here to view it The old numbers for DQ, 192 for national DQ and 153 for International DQ will be withdrawn at 00.01 on 24 August 2003. A number of DQ service providers have also got together to provide a leaflet and further information for consumers. They have a website at www.newdirectoryenquiries.com. Please be aware that this is not an Oftel website and that not all of the DQ service providers have chosen to be listed on this site. Please also note the disclaimer below. You should be aware that the cost of directory enquiry services may vary depending upon the telephone network that you call from. Oftel has asked telephone companies to provide links to the relevant parts of their website so consumers may find more information about the price of DQ calls. Those companies that have provided links to Oftel are listed alphabetically below:
