ONUS: a new
database and allocations scheme for UK numbering
ONUS stands
for Oftel/ Ofcom Numbering Unit System.
The NU currently
uses a database, built on MS Access 97, to maintain the National
Numbering Scheme. This is updated weekly onto the Oftel website
in both a zipped file containing a series of files in CSV (comma
separated variable) format, and as Excel spreadsheets.
With continued
growth in the number operators, applications and types of numbers
allocated by Oftel the current process of communication and maintaining
contact records has become cumbersome.
Oftel has now
secured agreement and budget to upgrade the current system. We are
not only going to have a new database but we are creating an on-line
application procedure for operators on the website.
ONUS will support
the NU in its work to allocate and monitor numbering, and with general
record-keeping, as well as provide an on-line application facility
for operators applying for numbering.
Oftel awarded
the contract for ONUS to MMT plc in May 2003.
This page is
a record of the meetings Oftel has had up to and from this date
with external users as part of the process of assuring that ONUS
will be fit for the purpose of providing information and benefits
to all stakeholders.
