NATIONAL CODE
AND NUMBER CHANGE FRAMEWORK DOCUMENT
The current Oftel
Framework Document was issued on 20 March 2001, and includes further
detail on PRS and mobile and pager ranges.
RESTORING TRUST
IN PERSONAL NUMBERING
Oftel is consulting
on ways to prevent abuse of the 070 range (click
here for consultation document). There are concerns with Premium
Rate Services, fax-back scams, 070 divert for Internet access operating
behind 070 numbers set aside for personal numbers. The consultation
will run initially until 17 July 2001, and a further 2 weeks will
be allowed to submit comments on comments. Oftel is currently considering
responses made and intends to produce a revised issue by autumn 2001.
NUMBERING
CONVENTIONS
The Numbering
Convention consultation document, was issued in February 2001 (click
here for consultation document), ended on 18 May 2001 with a
further 2 weeks allowed for comments on comments. All have been
received and the consultation is now closed.
FREEPHONE NUMBERS
Oftel have just
released 749 1k 0800 number ranges for allocation.

FORUM
The forth Numbering
Forum was held on 10th April 2001 to discuss numbering issues. Click

Forum will be held in 6 months time - details will be published

Operators are
reminded that their licence requires them to furnish information
to the Director. Non-return of Audit information may be a breach
of the licence. In the absence of Audit Returns, OFTEL will not
make further allocations and may start the process of withdrawing
existing allocations (including Indirect Access Codes).
NUMBER CHANGES
IN THE IRISH REPUBLIC
Oftel has been
advised by the Irish Regulator, ODTR, that certain number ranges have
been opened at very short notice, ahead of notification to ITU-T.
Mobile mailbox
numbers in Ireland have changed from 9 digits to 10 digits effective
from June 2000. The number length of mobile subscriber numbers remains
unchanged at 9 digits. The details are as follows:
