Number portability prefix codes

Following the BT/CCA Trial of Geographic Number Portability, which verified inter alia the feasibility using Number Portability Prefix Codes (NPPC) between operators, Oftel have written to all operators proposing a formal scheme for allocation and reservation of NPPCs. Recipients have been requested to comment on the proposals to Oftel by 20 March 1996 at the latest so that the scheme can be in place for allocation and reservation of NPPCs to operators from 1 April 1996.

Administration of the specified numbering scheme

During February 1996 the Numbering Unit received applications from operators for over 620 blocks in S-Digit 1. This represents, in one month, some 40% of the total received for the 12 months covered by the 1995 Annual Report by the Numbering Scheme Manager (July 1994 - June 1995). These applications are currently being processed by the Numbering Unit and, because of the large volume, operators may experience some delay in the processing of their applications.
