NUMBERING SCHEME REVIEW

The Numbering Advisory Group met on 28 June 1996 to discuss the proposals to be contained in the consultative document on the Specified Numbering Scheme. The document is scheduled for publication at the end of July 1996. All those to whom Numbering Bulletins are directly distributed will receive a copy of the document and it will also be available on Oftel's Internat pages.

INTERNET

Please note Oftel's new Internet address which is

http://www.open.gov.uk/oftel//

The old address, which is slightly longer, also will continue to work, but we cannot guarantee the duration of parallel running.

READING

Following the details given in Numbering Bulletin No. 24 (May 1996) about the plans for the changeover of CLI presentation for Reading Numbers, the following updated information has been notified to the Numbering Unit:

1000 Number Block 385 will now change on 10 September 1996 (was 22 October 1996)

1000 Number Block 47X will now change on 8 October 1996 (was 17 September 1996)

NEW CODE FOR 'SINGLE DROP CHARGE' SERVICES

Following applications from operators for numbering capacity to accommodate new PRS 'Single Drop Charge' services (that is where the caller pays a single set call fee irrespective of the duration of the call or its destination), the code 0895 has been designated for PRS Single Drop Charge Services. The code covers two bands of charging as follows:

For services with a call charge of up to 50p the codes 08950, 08951, 08952, 08953 and 08954 will be used, and for services with a call charge of up to £1 the codes 08955, 08956, 08957, 08958 and 08959 will be used. These designations are reflected in the changes recorded under the Administration of the Specified Numbering Scheme below and on Oftel's Internet pages. Operators and suppliers/ maintainers of CPE will need to ensure that networks and terminal equipment can handle appropriately calls made to such numbers.

The numbering of PRS, or 'Content', services is being considered as part of the Review of the Specified Numbering Scheme and will be included in the consultative document.
