The Director
General's Statement The National numbering Scheme published in January
1997 set out Oftel policy for the rationalisation of the UK Specified
Numbering Scheme. The policy was formalised through the publication
of revised Numbering Conventions in April 1997. This document
sets out the key elements of that policy and subsequent developments
to be used by the Telecommunications Operators, represented by the
National Code and Number Change Working Groups in the preperation
of Technical and communications Implementation Plans in respect
of changes to numbering for geographic, mobile, paging, personal
numbering, Special Rate and Premium Rate services.
