Statutory consultation on proposed modifications to NTL’s transmission licence

On 7 April 2000 Oftel began a statutory consultation on proposed modifications to NTL’s transmission licence, granted on 20 December 1990.

The proposed modifications will bring Schedule 1, Part 1 (x) of NTL’s licence in line with that of the licence granted to Crown Castle UK on 23 January 1997. The modifications will enable the Director General of Telecommunications to maintain and promote effective competition in the provision of television and radio transmission services.

When the Director General wishes to make changes to an existing licence, he must comply with the procedure for doing so set out in the Telecommunications Act 1984. One of the steps in the procedure is the consultation process.

The first stage of the consultation will run until 5 May 2000, whereby representations or objections to the proposed modifications may be made to Oftel. Any such representations or objections should be sent to:

In the second stage, interested parties are invited to send comments to Robert MacDougall, details as above, by no later than 19 May 2000, on representations or objections received in the first stage.
