The latest edition of the Mobile Update was published in November and the latest Fixed Update in September 2001. Both of these publications are now available on Oftel's website under Publications and Market Information. The next Annual publication is scheduled for publication later this month.

Mobile market growth

• At the end of June 2001 there was a total of just under 43 million mobile subscribers.
• This represents year on year growth of 39%.

Annual growth rates

• There was also year-on-year growth in call volumes and revenues, although at a slightly lower rate than previously.
• The volume of SMS messages was lower than in the previous quarter.

Retail revenues per subscriber

• There was no change in average retail revenue per user, however this was partly the result of the new subscriber disconnection definitions used by Vodafone & BT Cellnet, which excludes phones which have not been used in the last three months.
