Following the launch of the new directory enquiry services on 10 December 2002 a new website has been launched by the industry to help consumers find out more about what new services are available - and how much the different services cost.

The website can be found at http://www.newdirectoryenquiries.com.

Over ten service providers are offering the new services, which were launched to significant press interest in December 2002.

Further consumer information is available on the Oftel website at www.oftel.gov.uk/consumer

A leaflet is also being distributed with all new BT phone books as they are delivered to homes around the UK.

To ensure that consumers are able to get used to the new six-digit numbers - all of which start 118 - existing directory enquiries numbers will be running alongside the new numbers until the end of August 2003.

Oftel is also carrying out a programme monitoring consumer awareness. The first results following last year's launch will be published this month.

The 195 service for customers unable to use a conventional phone book due to disability will remain unchanged.
