latest edition of the mobile update, covering the period for Q4 (Jan to
Mar 2003), was published in June 2003. The Q4 fixed update is due to be
published in August 2003. The publications are available on Oftel's website

Summary
- Total subscriber
figures at the end of March show a small drop on the previous quarter's
total.
- This drop was
in pre-pay customers, leaving total UK subscribers at just under 50
million.
- Post paid contract
subscribers still show an increase during the quarter and now number
almost 16 million.
- The proportion
of subscribers using post-pay packages is now 32 per cent%.
- Call volumes
growth increased slightly to total around 14 million minutes for the
quarter.
- Revenues from
SMS increased again to over £400m in the quarter and were 33%
higher than the same period in 2001/02.
- SMS volumes now
total almost 1.7 billion per month, over one message per subscriber
per day.
- Average call
volumes per subscriber is now just over 90 minutes per month.
- Average retail
revenue per subscriber remained steady at £50.00 for the quarter.
