Information Systems Development

Infrastructure

The EROS project covers the installation of local and wide area networks, which have now been fully rebuilt since the explosion at South Quay in February 1996. Also implemented as part of EROS are internal and external e-mail (the latter via both the Internet and X400), electronic office facilities such as shared diaries, and limited access to Internet facilities other than e-mail. Still to come under EROS are enhanced network facilities using a replacement network operating system; an intranet; and, following the Agency's acquisition of a firewall, extended access to the Internet from Agency desktops.

As well as EROS, the infrastructure programme covers a number of other topics including development of Agency IT standards; a project support office; and a range of procedures designed to improve standards of IT project development, investment appraisal, and IT resource management.
