The licensing of Coastal Station Radio is being devolved to the Agency's local licensing centres. The advantages of local licensing for CSR are much the same as those for PBR, as local solutions can be devised for local questions. In response to demand, new licences have introduced to cater for temporary usage of CSR channels for such events as yacht and powerboat races. The Agency is reviewing and redrafting information sheets on CSR. Ship Radio Licensing documentation has been through its regular review.
The contract for Ship Radio Licensing continues to operate well. A customer satisfaction survey recorded a high level of contentment amongst licensees and the contractor, Wray Castle, also met important quality of service targets.
Some work traditionally undertaken by the Radiocommunications Agency is being transferred to the Marine Safety Agency. These responsibilities are seen as more relevant to mariner safety than spectrum management and include the maintenance and administration of performance specifications and operator certification.
