The Radio Equipment Certification Unit, formed following the re-organisation of the Agency in January 1997, provides the Agency with:
| A full range of radio equipment and EMC certification facilities against National and European standards. | |
| The focus for radio equipment and systems standardisation, mainly in ETSI, within the Agency including co-ordination of the public enquiry and voting processes. | |
| The focus for EMC standardisation within the Agency in BSI, CENELEC and CISPR. |
The Unit provides the international community with the President of CISPR (international EMC body) - Peter Kerry - who is also responsible for the EMC policy aspects within the Agency. In addition Olly Wheaton (Head of the Unit) is the chairman of the new ETSI Technical Committee - EMC and Radio Spectrum Matters (TC-ERM) - which is responsible for the preparation of EMC standards and the preparation and co-ordination of the standardisation activity within ETSI to provide for compatibility between different systems and services.
