Computing and Propagation Modelling
In-house expertise in the mathematical modelling of
radiowave propagation has continued to develop. Two additional specialists were appointed
during the year, and two more may be appointed in 1997. This has meant that propagation
software modules forming part of business systems used to issue licenses are increasingly
being supplied from within the Agency. This has demonstrated a number of advantages,
particularly a close awareness of the technical requirements, and flexibility in matching
them to internationally recognised methods.
The Agency's propagation specialists also contribute substantially to the Propagation
Study Group within the International Telecommunication Union. This has included the
development and international acceptance of a simpler and more accurate replacement for
the diffraction model in ITU Recommendation 526.
