*

RA Press Notice - 7 December 1998

The findings of an audit of radio use in London in the UHF1 Band, one of the main land mobile radio bands, have been published today by the Radiocommunications Agency. The Report contains details of land mobile radio services operating in the band and channel utilisation data gathered by the Agency’s Monitoring Unit.

Significant users of the 468 channels in UHF1 (425.00625-449.49375 MHz) include the utilities (gas and electricity), large taxi companies, couriers, common base station operators, and a public mobile data network.

Notes for Editors:

1. In July 1992 a review was commissioned by the previous Government with the aim of examining current use of the radio frequency spectrum from 28 - 470 MHz and making recommendations in the light of developments. The Review Committee's report was published in March 1994 (Report of the Radio Spectrum Review Committee Stage 3: 28-470 MHz). The previous Government’s response to the report was published in April 1995. The Radiocommunications Agency is addressing the Report and Response by carrying out audits of the land mobile radio bands in London on a band by band basis. Copies of the UHF1 Report, the UHF2 Report (published in March 1998), the VHF Mid Band Report (published in September 1996), and a report on VHF High Band (published in March 1995), are available from the Agency's Library at the address given below. Future audits will cover VHF Low Band and Band III.
